Talking about music to a music journalist is the equivalent of opening up a Pandora’s Box of trivial, yet entirely important, knowledge. Therefore, media mechanism such as Twitter can shortchanged the writer with its 140-character limit. Music journalist from recent generations have been able to use Twitter for their advantage while older legends tend to use it as a way to expose lost articles or connect with fans. The grandaddies of the art, Cameron Crowe and David Fricke, tweet far less than the newer generation, Greg Kot, Jim Fusilli and Ben Ratliff.
Cameron Crowe is a journalist, director and writer who singel-handily made John Cusack famous. He operates a website, The Uncool, and frequently tweets archive articles.
David Fricke has writes for Rolling Stone Magazine and besides his epic jaw, he is well known throughout the field.
Greg Kot is a writer for The Chicago Tribune, cohost for Sound Opinions and the author of “Ripped, Wilco: Learning How to Die.”
Jim Fusilli is The Wall Street Journal rock and pop critic.
Ben Ratliff is a music critic for The New York Times and author of “Coltrane: The Story of a Sound” and “The Jazz Ear.”
